Scope of Activities in 2010
In November 2009 the Department of Culture launched a fact-finding inquiry (Ku2009/2152/KT) on the progress made on digitisation efforts to date by a number of archives, libraries, museums, heritage foundations, cultural organisations, and public services bodies at the national and regional levels. In additional to the reporting of results and current activities, the inquiry provides an opportunity for the respondents to identify challenges and propose courses of change that may contribute to the formation of a future national strategic policy and plan regarding digitisation, electronic access and digital conservation. ABM-centrum has committed to assisting central Swedish cultural heritage agencies and national foundations both during the period of the inquiry (to April 9th, 2010) and afterwards into a next preparatory phase of work towards coordinated digitisation efforts. More specifically, ABM-centrum’s operations during 2010 will:
- provide expertise and organise activities which may contribute to a greater common understanding of the tasks involved in the inquiry Ku2009/2152/KT;
- raise awareness toward key issues included in the inquiry;
- maintain a dialogue with the Department of Culture and with the central institutions involved in the inquiry;
- contribute to a development of a future national strategy through collaborative efforts, networking and improved contact between member institutions; and
- by planning external activities and spreading information, contribute to raised awareness and knowledge exchange in areas relevant to the inquiry.
